The new conservative Norwegian government seems likely to increase the planned purchase of new fighters from 48 to 60. (The Norwegian defense ministry has said that 60 is a minimum number to have a credible air force.) The choice for a new fighter (to replace the old F-16As starting in 2010) has been narrowed to the Eurofighter Typhoon-3 and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.--Stephen V Cole
