Noting that its military capabilities continue to lag behind the US, Britain has decided to spend an extra $5.51 billion through 2006 improving its systems. The money will go for unmanned air vehicles (the Watchkeeper program has been ordered to put recon UAVs into service in 2005, two years ahead of schedule), systems to allow integrated information networks to function, strategic mobility, and precision-guided weapons.--Stephen V Cole
