Procurement: Arabs Buy HIMARS

Archives

October 1, 2006: The United Arab Emirates is buying twenty American HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) rocket launchers, along with support vehicles, MLRS rockets and maintenance services. The truck mounted MLRS (HIMARS) carries only one six missile cell (instead of two in the MLRS), but the 12 ton truck can fit into a C-130 transport (unlike the 22 ton tracked MLRS). The HIMARS entered service two years ago. If the UAE gets to buy all the MLRS rockets it wants, this deal will be worth some $752 million.
