China's Navy is testing a new anti-ship missile, although the first three test launches failed. This is thought to be a variant of the Fei Long family, although the designation announced by China (FL-2) is the same as the designation of a failed solid-fuel variant of the family tested in 1983. There was an FL-7 tested (without success) in 1988 and China has said it is working on the FL-10, which it insists is an Iranian design for which China is providing only limited technical support.--Stephen V Cole
