South Korea has received Russian weapons in the 1990s in payment for trade debts. This included eighty T-80 tanks. It is thought that North Korea may have a few T-80s as well. South Korea is moving a battalion of their T-80 tanks to the DMZ, where, if there is a war, they might have an opportunity to fight North Korean T-80s. North Korea has been trying to develop it's own variation on the T-80 design. North Korea is spending money on weapons projects like this even while over a third of its population starves. Most of North Korea's tanks are the 1950s era T-62 and T-55.
