Russian troops in Chechnya killed a major rebel leader (Arbi Barayev) and ten of his followers during a search operation outside Grozny. A rebel press release denies this and says the dead were civilians. The soldiers also arrested over a hundred civilians in the village. Meanwhile, in the south of the province, an eleven pound bomb went off in an administrative building. There were no injuries.
