US State Department sources confirm a Sudanese government (Khartoum) air strike killed 18 civilians in the Equatoria Province town of Yei. The civilians were killed by bombs. There was no indication of the aircraft type involved in the strike, but given that there was no strafing reported and the distance from Sudanese airfields to Yei, Strategypage suspects Antonov-type transports were once again involved in the raid. The Antonovs attack "area targets" (meaning refugee camps and towns) from altitudes above shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile range.
