The US Air Force has given Boeing a $45 million contract for Engineering & Manufacturing Development" of a 500-pound version of the Joint Direct Attack Munition. This will be used by F-16 and F-18 fighters and by B-2 bombers; it should be in service by December 2002. This smaller weapon would allow a single aircraft to attack more targets on each mission, and would reduce the collateral damage caused when attacking targets in
