The Indian Air Force has received its first ten Su-30MKI fighters from Russia, becoming the first nation to put a thrust-vectoring fighter into operational service. India is to get 12 more in 2003 and the final 10 in 2004. The fighter also has a passive phased array radar, a major technological advance.--Stephen V Cole
