The new French M51 submarine launched nuclear missile is back on track after intense cost negotiations between the French government and EADS (the European aerospace and defense consortium). The consortium demanded another $1 billion for development work, but ultimately settled for a deal in which it will get about two-thirds of that amount. The first flight test of the M51 is scheduled for 2005.--Stephen V Cole
