The U.S. Navy has been having major problems with illegal drug use over the last few years. During this time, the navy has been catching and discharging more sailors for drug use than all of the other services combines. Some 94 percent of sailors who fail a drug test get expelled from the navy. Ecstasy has become the major drug used, and the navy had reduced use over the past year by increasing the number of unannounced drug tests by 50 percent. This produced a 25 percent drop in sailors caught using drugs, the first decline in four years. Sailors caught dealing drugs go to prison for a year or two before being discharged.
