India has confirmed its plans to lease two Russian-built Akula (Bars Type-971) nuclear attack submarines which are under construction in Russia. The Russians had started building this new advanced sub-type of Akula but could not complete them for lack of money. The Russians will use the profit from the deal to finance the new fourth-generation Severodvinsk-class of nuclear submarines.--Stephen V Cole
