The US government estimates that an Iraq invasion would cost $50-60 billion, compared to $80 billion (adjusted for inflation) for the 1991 war. However, in 1991, contributions from allies covered some 90 percent of American expenses.

 U.S. and British warplanes bombed Iraqi aid defense sites in southern Iraq after the Iraqis flew a MiG-25 aircraft into the southern no-fly zone.
