Unknown gunmen killed the chief of  the al Nasseri tribe, Abdullah Mahmud Al-Khattab. Some say the chief has spoken against Saddam Hussein, who was a member of the tribe. But Al-Khattab's sons denied this, and pointed out that their father had been held by the Americans for 17 days. The incident was probably the result of tribal and Baath Party politics.
