American intelligence efforts have succeeded in putting together a picture of the key clans (extended families) that formed Saddam's inner  circle, and are now leading and financing the Sunni Arab resistance to losing power. There are five families organizing and financing most of the attacks against coalition forces. The suicide bomber attacks are apparently al Qaeda operations and many of the ineffective "ambushes" (guys shooting wildly at convoys with AK-47s and RPGs) are Iraqis (usually Sunnis) unhappy with the new situation.
