Ukraine's Kharkov Design Bureau (which produced the T-80 and T-84) is working with the Swiss Ordnance Enterprise to develop a 120mm NATO-standard smoothbore cannon for future versions of the T-80 and contract refits of older T-72s. The Ukrainians already displayed a T-72 upgraded with a 120mm smoothbore gun of their own design, but apparently feel that the Swiss-designed weapon would be better accepted in the marketplace.--Stephen V Cole
