CHINA has reorganized its Air Force as part of the major reduction in force structure announced in 1997. At that time, the Chinese Air force had 43 divisions, which were thought to include 34 fighter, 5 bomber, and 2 transport divisions. The retirement of most of the F-6 (MiG-19) fighters has resulted in a reduction to 27 fighter divisions, 4 bomber divisions, and 2 transport divisions. [Intelligence is not able to confirm that the 38th Bomber Division in Laiyang in Hunam Province has been disbanded. If it has not, there are 5 bomber divisions and 34 total divisions.]--Stephen V Cole
