Clan violence in the southwest has left some sixty dead and many more wounded. Nearly 10,000 people have fled the area around the town of  Bulo Hawa. Rival clans are trying to establish who controls key territory in advance of peace negotiations in Kenya which will establish a new government. Whichever clan controls key towns, roads and land when the peace deal goes into effect will be able to obtain long term benefits from that control.
