Soldier Sex In Afghanistan
Next Article → AIR DEFENSE: Defending Guam
December 1, 2009: Last year, the U.S. Army in Afghanistan has removed the prohibition on sex between male and female soldiers. There are 68,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and about ten percent of them are female. So far this year, about fifteen percent of these female troops have had pregnancy tests, and a few percent of the female troops have gone home because they were pregnant.

Since the 1990s, the army has been big on clean living (or whatever you want to call it) in combat zones. No booze, no sex and not cavorting (you know what that means) with the locals. But with most of the troops in combat zones being young and single, things happened. Some couples got caught. Commanders got tired of having to punish (usually with an Article 15, which is just short of a court martial) troops for "unauthorized fornication." So now it is, if not authorized, not likely to get you punished (aside from the occasional unexpected pregnancy).

Well, when the local talent starts looking good, it is truly time to go home.

When I was TDY to Cp Sather, Iraq I heard a rumor about a half dozen Air NG couples (married, both genders activated) inprocessed to tent city.  They asked where the "couples" tent was (I assume they meant the tent married couples used on bivouac during manuvers).

The young, female, Regular AF airman took one look at them, threw 12 sets of sheets on the counter and said "Males, tent 5A.  Females, tent 16G.  By the way, no sexual intercourse is allowed by order of Centaf for the duration of your deployment.  Have a nice day!"

"Sucks" to be them, I guess.

/Cool story, bro!

Remember the good old days when they use to issue you condoms just so you wouldn't catch the Clap? But, here's these poor folks, stuck in a Muslim country, no decent boom boom house around (let a lone Alcohol to help relax the nerves a bit) and having to worry about a Article 15 if your caught shagging the mail clerk way deep in the motorpool. This war will never produce a good episode of M.A.S.H. with that kind of mindset.

Didn't the French used to have official military Field Brothels to deal with this issue?

I agree with letting the soldiers fornicate though, as long as it's kept outside the unit and from interfering with duties.
