Does the USMC or US Army have any infantry units that specialize in mountain warfare?

Similar to how the Parachute Regiment no longer conducts parachute training.

Funny that, because they do.  The number have just been cut back for cost savings.

Did they not discontinue parachute training until 2011? Even if they did not, what do you mean  the number has been cut back? That some Paras recieve parachute training while others do not?

I was skiing in Colorado just last week and saw clusters of guys on the slopes wearing all woodland camo Gore-Tex.  They were all wearing regular skiis and were staying together.  Most of them looked fairly young, though not a single one looked under twenty three.  I ran into one of them in bar down in the mountain house, and he told me that they were the 10th Special Forces Group (Weather) out of Ft. Carson.  I made a crack remark about how that wasn't bad training and let it go.  I knew enough not to ask too many questions, and he seem content to drink his beer alone.  He did tell that me that they would be training at other slopes throughout the week.  I would assume then that mountain training is part of their regular traininig regimen.  This makes sense as Special Forces troops were some of the first up in the mountains of Afghanistan.

If you wander the back country of Colorado you will on occasion meet men and women with short hair, in great shape, and in possesion of some pretty good equipment. Usually they are not in uniform but occasionally they will be out and about in camo & weapons. These folks are learning quite logical things in one of the best places on earth to learn them.

The place that the first Mountain Division learned to climb, their contemporaries do. Check out Bridgeport California too.
