The recon battalions do have the sniper rifles and specified individuals do train with them. Their role is a little different than with the scout snipers of the infantry battalions.

unless it is changed-which it probably has, NO(per se).... If a sniper asset is needed for a unit, they are detatched for the specific mission. I'm not aware of a sniper rifle being in the T/O. They probably do have the Barrett, but that is multi-purpose.

You can be, but only if you're a fighter pilot and JAG lawyer as well. Otherwise, it's right out.

>>You can be, but only if you're a fighter pilot and JAG lawyer as well. Otherwise, it's right out<< Well, they recently upped the requirements and added Tanker to the list :) Seriously, Republican, no...in a Force Recon bn you can't be a true S/S. Force Recon has some Marines who are specifically trained to use a Sniper Rifle (The Barret .50 for example), but it is primarily for Recon purposes and counter-seurvaillance (sp), not being a hunter/killer. Two different roles, but the same weapon
