things are changing, it´s normal, and not just in SA. Let´s check also US military capability in 2001 and 2011, it has radically increased becouse of ongoing conflict. You can say US has sources for it and has well trained military in any time, ok, than see Red Army in WWII, after first month it almst collapsed, but after all won. What I want to point out - in assessing the ability of the army you must take into account also the ability to respond to ongoing changes. At the moment SA doesn´t face a threat of war, so there is no reason to spend money in this way... Everybody knows that company of SA soldiers has higher "battle value" than Zimbabwian batalion...

Thank you for a very good and clear analyses.  SA didn't need all the new equipment delivered.  The arms scandal is a very well known issue here and abroad.  It has a number of angles: Payback time for those who assisted with the struggle as per arranged understanding.  You scratch my back I scratch yours.  Lots and lots of "sweeteners" in terms of procurement and plenty made on the sideline for individuals -it just won't go away.  Corruption and bribery to financially support political power to be saddled with equipment we don't need and can't operate, because we don"t know how to and we can't afford to.  And when there is such a large majority in favour of the ruling establishment it will be difficult to do anything about it.  Some have been trying for years to just get the arms deal to court, but the shennanigans going on is unbelievable.  There is a reason for the situation we face.  Soon the press may be muzzled to make sure nothing comes out anymore.
