Subject: CIA career
JAG    9/9/2005 7:43:10 PM
I was hopeing someone could help me.I was thinking of a career in the CIA but I don't think I know enough about it to make a informed decision. I went on their website but I still wish for more information on the positions available, exactly what they do and what is needed as far as schooling, what classes I should take, to work there. If anyone knows any good websites or has any other information on the subject I would greatly appreciate it!

You can pursue an Intelligence Studies degree on-line with the American Public University System: link and follow the links for the BA just mentioned as well as graduate degrees in Strategic Intelligence (the Intel courses are offered under APUS's American Military University. These may be of help, too: link (Federation of American Scientists' website. The organization has some dubious origins, however the information supplied on their site is top-rate.) link CIA's factbook, which covers the various divisions within CIA. Also, contact their public affairs and as them to get you into contact with their recruiters. link Good background of CIA & its relationship with Executive & Legislative Branches. THIS ORG IS COMPRISED OF ABOUT 25% CIA: www.afio.org The Association of Former Intelligence Officers. Great weekly newsletters (plenty of recruiting announcements, too) to keep you abreast of Intel stuff. ALSO: you may join this org ($50) without having been an intelligence officer or ever associated with Intel; just be an American citizen with an interest in Intel. Also found at this site are scholarships for students who commit to work for CIA afterwards for an equal period of college sponsorship. BTW, why'd you pick "JAG?" HB

I suggest you pick an agency that has something to do with our national defense instead of something to do with politics. Go work for NSA, NGA, or DIA. If you have a particular interest in one of the service branches, then go to a unit that's part of INSCOM (Army), ONI (Navy), or AIA (Air Force). If you are an engineering student, I'd suggest NGIC or MSIC (Army), NMIC (Navy), or NASIC (Air Force). Geez, anyplace but CIA.... :-) Displacedjim

The better question is, "What's wrong with our Congress?" (See Church and Pike Commissions and the acquiescence of the Executive Branch over the years in allowing the intelligence community to devolve into political correctness and which has smothered effective initiative - mostly due to overreactions of what covert organizations must do at times.)
