Subject: Colonel Stig Wennerström dead
Thomas3    3/28/2006 6:03:50 PM
The big Swedish traitor in the 1950'ies and 60'ies has died (in freedom since 20 years) 99 years old.

He betrayed the connection between Sweden and the USA, when Sweden was officially neutral.
Furthermore - which in my view is more interesting - he betrayed Swedens military secrets to the Soviets: MAINLY AIR DEFENCE RELATED.

His motives have never been satisfactorally been explained - and he kept mum.

The Swedish Air Defence is particularly interesting, as it shows a very keen Soviet interest in that area. In the 1980'ies it was a problem if the Russian overflew Sweden the Danish Air Defence had 5 minutes in low level to intercept overflying bombers - which probably wasn't enough. My theory is that Palme was murdered because he was about to enter into a deal with Moscow: That if Soviet planes overflew Sweden without targets in Sweden, then they would not be intercepted by Sweden.
Significantly: In the 1990'ies Sweden entered into a new low level warning system.

Another ghost from that aera in Sweden has surfaced as foreign secretary of that country. He is tainted by his association with the murdered Swedish Prime Minister Oluf Palme - where he was advisor on Iran-Iraq questions.
