Someone I know suggested that one counter intelligence method would be to drop a package of information into the system and watch what happens to it thereby clearing out moles(at the most dramatic)or mere indiscretion. The concept would be analogical to the hydrological method of following a pollutant up a river to find it's source by mathematically eliminating tributaries.
The information "package" would be given certain telltale signs which would vary from which portion of the intell community it is inserted into, allowing it to be established where the flaw is.
The description I am giving is vague because I don't completly understand myself how this plan would be arranged. But this is the basic idea.
