I thought "Global warming " solved all these issues. So much of the ice caps have melted that the polar bears are now endangered. WTF?

There were actuall 8 of them.  The 8th was built in Canada for the Canadian Navy and they later transfered it to heir Coast Guard.  4 of the originals were built for the Coast Guard and the other 3 for the navy.  However 3 were transferred to the Soviets under lend lease and latter returned to the Navy and eventually the Coast guard.  There were also several name changes with some of the vessels.  Of course when they were commissioned the Coast Guard was under the Department of the Navy so in a way they were part of the navy as well.
