The sword has 2 edges
11/14/2012 10:44:19 AM
The Palestinians seem to believe that because the say it is so it will become so. But experience has shown that those who believe their own delusions are eventually brought down by them. Eventually the Arab/Iranian oil money will run out, the Egyptians will close the tunnels, the flow of weapons will dry up and the Palestinians will be stuck without infrastructure and a technological elite.
As for the Europeans they always have and will have anti-jewish tinge. The Catholic Church, dominent in Europe for 1,000 years is responsible for that. But that too turned out to be a double edge sword. The Europeans killed 6,000,000 jews who want to peacefully practice their religion, vote, serve in their countries armies and be educated in there adopted countries schools. What did they get, 6,000,000 Muslims who want Europeans to practice Islam, don't believe in equality in voting, won't serve in the armed forces and believe that Western Education is anti-god.

I can't help but notice that throughout history, the nations that persecute the Jews seldom prosper by it. It's almost as if it were some sort of test.

Mountaintrol, that is not quite true, because almost everyone persecuted Jews at some point and to some extent. Nazi Germany is recent example, but it went on for centuries ago. In fact, Germany was relatively safe and tolerant until Hitler happened.
I am not Jewish, but I can't help noticing that persecution continues today. Have you seen people carrying signs 'Kill the juice' ?

Trenchsol has a point, but the people with the signs are not very smart. My old Daddy taught me to never play nasty with anyone who had a demonstrated ability to strike fast, hard and without warning; more so when he is backed up by his Uncle Sam,

The Jews have had a pretty rough time, they're not exaggerating when they refer to a legacy of persecution that is unique in its duration and extent.
Jews have formed useful scapegoats for all manner of politicians, leaders, monarchs and religions and I doubt that's going to stop any time soon, it is sad though seeing developed countries with such shameful legacies doing nothing to counteract the one-sided narrative accompanying developments in Israel - subtle uses of imagery, language and innuendo ensure that "unnecessary escalation" is always seen to be coming from Israel, that there is some sort of virtue in exercising a level of restraint under persistent attack that they would not even conceive of advocating were they on the receiving end.
Quite simply, negotiating with Hamas and "Islamic Militants" in general is doomed to failure, what would the Palestinian peoples do without their scapegoats? Would that not in turn remove the justification of all manner of failings, political, social and economic, in Palestinian territories and the wider Arab world? There is no hope of lasting change until demographic shifts take place, that might take several decades - until then Hamas will continue to inflict itself on the very people it claims to want to emancipate.

Considering Hamas and similar organizations, things may improve soon. Syrian regime is about to fall any day now. That will leave Iran, main supporter of such organizations in very grave situation. They are about to lose their main ally. Also, all the cash they spent supporting Syrian regime, is as good as being burned down, wasted... And they are under sanctions. I wonder how are they going to explain that to their people....
Ahmadinejad is almost certainly going to be a scapegoat, but it will hardly be enough. Even the repression has its limits. I think chances are more than 50-50 that Iranian regime will be go down after Syria falls.

Except that today, nobody in Israel - particularly Netanyahu - is under any illusions of the "support" they'd get from the US gov't. Obama despises Israel, routinely ignores their POV, and is anxious to show Islam how 'understanding' he is.
