Tucci78    Of what value is the good opinions of Arabs?   12/26/2012 9:53:11 AM
If the "Islamic world" in which the Turkish politicians are seeking "stature" is predominantly Arabic and Iranian (and let's not forget the perpetually pestiferous Kurds), just what the heck is that "stature" worth to Turkey, anyway?

For much longer than half a century - at least since Turkish troops showed their mettle on the battlefields of Korea - the Turks have been working to make themselves a presence in the Western world.  Are they determined now to throw that effort away, and subside into the morass of mullah-struck woggery?

Partly they're tired of us being suspicious of them, partly we were right to be suspicious of them (I never believed their secularism would last). There's only so much Ataturk's legacy can hold back.
