I am not familiar with recruiting policies and practices of Radical Islamist, of course. However, bits and pieces of information found, together with common sense, make me believe that suicide bombers have different ideas when they join up. They, probably, believe they are going to be heroes or something. My guess is that their superiors conduct selection and separate potential soldiers and people with useful skills from the rest. Then the remainder ends up as suicide bombers. Once they got where they were heading to, there is not much choice for them and no going back.

 

So there are no complicated psychological techniques, no sophisticated brainwashing. It is either die in the name of the Prophet, or just die.

I think if we ever have to go back. We should take Shinseki's advice and bring a proper force or strike quickly and leave.

 

Why not just avoid cities? Forgive I am no military strategist but it appears to my civilian eyes. (behind these eyes I've made an attempt to appreciate the capabilities of different forces vs. USA) Why not leave the lights on and avoid the C&C centers. Then just kill/deter whatever they throw at us? Do we truly need to eliminate the command structures to safeguard our forces? Nope this is about FAITH, and the latest greatest one is Islam. It is the last of the Abrahamic religions (hopefully), and no other modern faith can support self delusion as good as Islam.  In the US the last recognized religion is Scientology, do you see them as suicidal martyrs?   Sure Scientologist die-hards commit white collar crime but that' s about it.  But in Islam you get a paradise  an illiterate mental defective or a college graduate  both could love (for different reasons); as they go blow themselves up.

AT LEAST A THIRD  were middle income or better  outside of the Palestinians and non musilims for their origin.  But you are correct that most males are virgins prior to recruitment and way too many females are rape victims (so trying to avoid honor killing).
