Subject: Why is there not a rankin of the 10 best trucks?
Thomas    11/27/2003 7:55:11 AM
Considering the huge interest there is in nominating the 10 best tanks, it is depressing that the lowly truck recieves so little attention. You could say that the typical soldier is a lorry driver - not an infantry man. What criteria should be considered????

Yup, pushing the logistics through was an achievement. I noted somewhere that the supply corps adopted the walmart idea of RFID chips in all the containers. In GW1 the Tanks would definatly have had to stop, but becase there was tighter logistic control, only what was needed was being taken off first and sent off rather than shipping everything in and sorting it out later. Re trucks: Is the number of trucks needed to support one tank for one day a good measure of armourned unit logistics? And back to the topic of top 10 trucks: The irish company Timoney build a decent cross country 12 ton payload truck, using their patented suspension system, also used in a APV co-manufactured with a belgian company. Used effectivly in Somailia and currently in Eritira.

Actually, the figure is not that one for one for support vehicles. In the support platoon of a US Army M1-equipped tank battalion you have 12 each 2,500 gallon fuelers HEMMTs. There are 44 M1s in the battalion, but there are also 6 each Bradleys. 6 armored mortar carriers, 8 or 9 armored command post vehicles, 5 to 7 armored recovery vehicles, 6 or 7 armored ambulancesd and over 100 wheeled vehicles. All have to be refuled from those 12 HEMMTs. Now you normally don't have to refill from 0 to x gallons every time for all; usually it is only a top off. SO what you try to do is just before crossing the line of departure on a an attack, you make sure everyone is topped up and all HEMMTS are also topped off. In the US Army, we use a system where you can set up a fuel point fed by bags or 5,000 gallon tankers and do a roll through. But that is not something that can be set up quickly. So the HEMMTs are the workhorses in the armor, FA and mech infantry. And refuel ops tend to be done on a company basis, so you are liable to get 2 to 4 of those HEMMTs into your company area during LOGPAC operations. As for the truck you mentioned, I will have to defer your knowledge. As I stated, I know the US stuff and some of the NATO stuff. Outside of that I am lost.

44 MBT 6 Bradley, 6 Mortar Carriers, 9 Command 100 wheeled 12 organic tankers, broken into companies. Suppose that the fuel of the Wheeled Vehicles counts as 20 tracked, We've 85 Armour equivlents for 12 bowsers. So thats the front line, last leg logistics, or about 7 to 1 Can someone give equivelent figures for British, German, French and Israeli MBT Battalion? For comparision.
