Merchant mariners of many countries have been dealing with prirates for years. MSC instituted anti-priracy procedures decades ago and have they have now been updated to include modern force protection procedures.

The other side of the latest story is that Malaysia has objected and blocked the Japanese CG from protecting its ships. See this link:

In the latest on the problems of dealing with piracy, there is a news article in a Malaysian newspaper which seems to say that the Indonesian and Malaysian navys are arguing about which should patrol what waters?
