I'm sure it would be a lot more effective in detering pirates than some sonic discouragement device!

the problem is that the legit major commercial companies are not allowed to field such weapons. my daughter is currently part of a SECDET attached to a cruiseliner - if she could get access to a 20mm or similar she'd be as happy as a pig in schitt - needless to say they have to use other "options". there are unfortunately international restrictions in place for some onboard weapons.
