Subject: Gatling Hummers

How common are Hummers with 7.62mm miniguns? I saw footage of one in Fallujah, and immediately thought of the Chinese Gatling tank in Command and Conquer Generals. Can the Hummer take the weight of the weapon, which includes an electric motor?

I don't think its a standard fitting Normally its a Browning .50inch HMG, M60 or the new GPMG, or the new M19 autmaticgrenade launcher. Both the British and US use the Gatling/Mini gun on helecopters, I think the British mainly use it in the doors of the chinooks when on live operations. I think the US Marines were having a bit of fun by removing them from the helecopters and attatching them to the HUMMERS. The problem is the rate of fire is so high that you can't really carry enough amunition to fight over long periods.

To answer your question, yes the Hummer can very easily take the weight of it. It weighs around 85 pounds, so thats only one anorexic soldier. Ammunition is a different story. To run it for one minute without stopping your looking at ~600 pounds of ammo, though I certainly hope the Humvee can take that load as well. After that the battery on the gun dies I think, and it cannot run anymore anyway. If you go to the Dillon Aero website and snoop around they have a pic of a guy in a Hummer with one of their Hummmer minigun mounts.
