taffymedic    2/18/2010 11:42:31 AM
If the UK decided to withdraw from the middle east, closed it's various bases in places like Cyprus and Belize and decided that it's raison d'etre was to defend the UK mainland, what size and structure forces would be appropriate or neccessary??

Aside from possibly a slightly smaller British Army? about the same as it is now. The principle role of the Royal Navy is, and always has been, to protect British Trade. Considering that the UK imports food, fuel, gas as well as many other items (more then 90% of UK trade is be sea) it would be irresponsible for you people in the UK do downsize your forces much more then they are as you need to be able to safeguard your lifeline, your trade.
