Subject: If the US Marine Corps, and the French Foreign Legion had a battle, which side would win?
Republican    1/1/2006 4:03:01 AM
I think the Corps would win, but both sides are tough as nails.

>>What the Hell is Spanish Redneck LOL? << A Latin American who has lived in the South for roughly 3 years, and speaks a heavily accented form of Redneck.

>>The US Marine corps are not even specail forces. The French Foreign legion are wholly better trained individual troops. << Blah, blah, blah...that only matters if you are talking infantry on infantry battles (which I heavily disagree with you that the Legion is better trained), better infantry training doesn't matter when your Legion is outnumbered 10-1 in the African brush and the USMC has just ordered in a Spectre, a Cobra is flying around looking for something to kill, and the M1A2's are rolling toward the Legion...this is victory...and don't expect us to go easy on the deserters we catch, we'll send them to the firing line (we'll spare one, so he can go tell Chirac and the French people about the power of the US Marine Corps...Oorah) :)

Nice BS. I've seen a video of Marines fighting in Iraq. They look like tourists with guns, not soldiers. Legionares, they are soldiers: they have the toughness, the honor, the decency.

"Legionares, they are soldiers: they have the toughness, the honor, the decency." Militarily, the French have not done anything in the last 100 years. Those who live in the past die in the present.

... being in India rarely got them any of the goodies you find in Indian resturants (which are technically "shahi" or "royal"). As a matter of policy EIC and later the Brit Army tried their best to keep the Tommies supplied with "British" food only (sometimes resorting to Naval Supplies). Indian food was the last option before starvation. Of course the soldiers could swap with Indian soldiers - but that would probably yield them a completely different kind of Indian food than you can imagine.

The fact is that the FFL are the first soldiers to face an asymetric war situation (Indochina). French troops are also the ones who faced the third biggest asymetrical conflict of the XX century (Algeria) During this conflict, the French Army developed a new type of war and intel operations ( which we called "guerre subversive"). After tne end of the conflict, french cadres flied to the USA to teach these knowledge to US, who were very interested by French experience. French instructors also came to South America to teach anti sabotage and anti guerilla techniques.

"The fact is that the FFL are the first soldiers to face an asymetric war situation" Really, even before the Red Coats in America?

>>Nice BS. I've seen a video of Marines fighting in Iraq. They look like tourists with guns, not soldiers. Legionares, they are soldiers: they have the toughness, the honor, the decency.<< They are the baddest a**, toughest, and best shooting tourists that Iraq has ever seen. Don't look like soldiers? Nope, they look like Marines (soldiers are the guys who do a few pushups and run a mile or two every other day, Marines are the guys who squat 700lbs, bench 500lbs, and deadlift 800lbs...along with being able to run 3 miles in 18 minutes...not many Legionairres can do that)...and I seriously doubt you have seen Marines fighting in Iraq, what you have seen is a few 30 second clips in the MSM...they leave out the part where the Marines double tap the insurgents who are threatening them. Well, the Marines are getting ALOT of combat experience (much more valuable then the FFL 'high speed' training), while the FFL is running around in Dijibouti going through their training courses. Anyway, this doesn't matter, because the FFL would get eaten up by the USMC's grunt's, M1A2's, Cobra's, Spectre's, and leadership. Oorah

Methinks someone has seen a few too many recruiting vids....... "Nope, they look like Marines (soldiers are the guys who do a few pushups and run a mile or two every other day, Marines are the guys who squat 700lbs, bench 500lbs, and deadlift 800lbs...along with being able to run 3 miles in 18 minutes...not many Legionairres can do that)." GOP, while on active duty, we ran 30+ miles/week, did far more than pushups and situps, and in general pt'd our asses off. The weight figures you state normally lead to people who make giant targets, are about as flexible as a 2x4, and can't make weight in the army. Hyperbole is one thing, your post has no bearing in reality.
