What is a "shaped charge" in terms of 16 inch gun projectiles?

A shaped charge has a hollow, usually cone-shaped void on one side, often lined with copper or other metal. It is used to explosively penetrate hard targets: armor, concrete, etc. Some combat engineer applications are used to explosively cut through structures such as bridge supports. I know of no very large caliber shaped charge applications, such as 16 inch projectiles. I would think the kinetic energy alone would do a fine job.
