Regarding enemy armor, I know that tanks like the T-72 and T-80 represent the year we first saw them. What does BMP and BRDM stand for? I always wondered.

BMP - Boyevaya Mashina Pyekhota - Infantry Fighting Vehicle in Russian. BRDM - Amphibious Infantry Reconniance Vehicle - I not 100% sure on this one.

The T series is Soviet/Russian nomenclature. I guess the number refers to the design year, though there are counter examples like the T-60 and T-70.
