Here's a telling sample of why:

"Nobody in Europe is going to give up the opportunity of doing business with Iran just for the sake of pleasing the Americans," the oil consultant said.

No significant sanctions have been put on Iran, and I doubt any will be. Will Europe ever get on board about Iran or do most Europeans simply not see Iran as a threat to the world?

Unfortunately, most Europeans do not like to face up to and deal with threats until it is too late. There was a time when they were not so pacific and many in Europe saw war as glorious. That attitude led to WW1 where they very quickly learnt that industrialised war was something to be avoided. As we know, it took the Germans a second time for the lesson to sink in and an even nastier war ensued. Somewhere along the way Europeans got the idea that if they didn't act aggressively no-one else would and it would be safe to stick their heads in the sand.

In the end if the proverbial hits the fan, they know the US will come to the rescue - and if in the meantime if the US is not competing for business the Europeans would see that as a bonus.

Cheers.

That's OK with the USA because we know that when the shooting starts and Iran can no longer pay for Euroweenie goods, they will throw support behind the USA! The Euroweenies aren't totally stupid. They know they have to line up and beg for contracts after the USA pummels Iran.
