A lot of the 23000 posts ( I haven't read them all) were rather silly. As for post number 23000...

There is no such thing as a kaballistic or mystical number. All numbers are mathematical and obey mathematical laws AND NO OTHER LAWS.

Yes this is a silly thread. I couldn't leave that board at 22999 without due response, and besides, silliness is very fitting to the Cucumber Season we're trying to make the most of before the Middle East goes up in flames.
I think you cannot help showing your mean, immature streak, along with your blatantly arrogant ignorance. You obviously know nothing of the medieval, obsolete Jewish metaphysical system called Kabbalah, and for that matter nor do I, but at least I'm not attempting to make value judgements on two different branches of, uh, philosophy, and comparing betwen maths and metaphysics on "a which is better" basis is unmistakably childish.

I think I've answered Effess too, and I have no idea whether there exist kabbalistic numbers or not, but 1,000 times a nice prime such as 23 obviously connect to some sphere or another, non?

Yes I believe there are kabalistic numbers, but I wouldn't know about which was which. I know a little bit of Jewish lore and I probably will know more in the future as I tend to know something about whatever attracts me sooner or later. But I don't know much about Kabbalah and I doubt I will ever. I am pretty sure it has numerology as part of it, if only because The Chosen, and A Stranger Among Us say so. Admittedly fiction is not always the best authority. Shirrush, to modify, the question "Resolved: mathematics is better then Kabalah" is not childish. It cannot be answered but most of the most important questions cannot be answered. What is childish is saying, "mathematics is better and everyone who believes different is an ignorant fool or a manipulative knave."

So you do get my point, don't you?

Questions like that cannot be settled. That doesn't mean there is no answer ultimately-that is I am not a postmodernist. What it does mean is that our wisdom about such things is limited. Committing oneself to a conclusion about such things is not childish. But holding those who commit themselves differently certainly is. Which doesn't mean I never do that. I'm imperfect, so shoot me.

My point is that a certain SP board member apparently does not know how to behave, and still has not understood the difference between a respectable discussion board and the talkback fora on the Israeli media websites.

Shirrush,
I actually take pride in some aspects of my immaturity. After all, you are only young once, but you can remain immature for the whole of your like. I have FUN in toyrs'r'us. And in a toolshop.
I am not comparing maths and science with philosophy, religion, new-age carp etc. I am saying that science must not be mixed in with this stuff. If you want to learn about numbers, learn mathematics.  If you want to have fun with abstract ideas, don't try to mix in testable, quantifiable sciences.
As for arrogance, yes Shirrush, I look down with disapproval on those who will accept ideas as truth without demanding empirical evidence. I ridicule people who accept that numbers can have power or meaning without asking what form the power takes and how it can be measured.  How are these people going to learn the difference between culture, tradition, and idiotic superstition ? They can't, they don't, they freely mix the lot, and end up kissing mezzuzot becasue they think it brings luck, without having any idea what is written on the parchment inside - or what it means.
You might see it as ancient tradition and rich culture, but look what happens when exactly the same thing happens in religions other than you own? Doesn't look so clever then, does it?
It gets to me when people go out of their way to learn superstition rather than getting a useful education.
Sorry if I offended Shirrush, not so sorry if I offended people who believe in fairies and aliens.
I'll stick to the rules of the forum from now on so as to stay in SYSOPs' good books.
But a won't promise not to make cynical remarks about Shirrush - he seems intelligent enough to take it with good humour
