June 25, 2012: Twelve Israeli soldiers were arrested for collaborating with Bedouin smugglers in the Sinai. The twelve soldiers, including two officers, were Bedouins from southern Israel who belonged to a reconnaissance unit that patrols the desert border with Egypt. The arrested soldiers took bribes from the smugglers to move drugs across the border and keep the smugglers informed of Israeli patrol schedules along the border. Corruption among Bedouin soldiers has long been a problem.

 

So would the problem be less severe if Bedouins from southern Israel were assigned instead to the norther (Lebanese) border and the Golan Heights areas?  They have less in common (culturally or by way of extended family relationships) with the Lebanese and the Syrians than they do with friends and neighbors in the Egyptian Sinai. 

 

Let's see...5 Israeli wounded vs 12 killed and 100 wounded in Gaza.  Yup, Hamas won, Bibi won, civilians on both sides lost.
