Just asking some stupid questions. 1)Wich AG ROCKET showed the best result(not only US but all) 2)Are the Mavericks are obsolete(your opinion) 3)And what kind of AG rocket would you chose for let's say yours air force if you were it's comander. I know the questions are dumb and dont need that kind of replies!(if that is possible) Thank you.

1) Best result for what? 2) No. 3) CRV-7 seem good. I'd keep it. (RAF) Or did you mean guided weapon?

Maverick is not obselete, but it is massive over-kill for use against a vehicle and not big enough for many large structures. Considering its weight, size, and drag penalties compared to its performance and terminal effects, I'd think there's room for improvement if a modern replacement(s) were developed. Of course it has done well for us so far. Displacedjim

Can't really compare rockets and missiles, but since you mixed them in your questions, I will define "rocket" to include "missile". 1) Maverick. It may be old, but it's record is superb. If you believe the Raytheon propoganda, its probability of success is better than 80% with over ten thousand used in actual combat. 2) The Maverick is obsolete because of it's seeker and short legs. The missile can never be used at its maximum aerodynamic range because the seekers have to lock on before launch and they can't see much better than a blind man with cataracts. You use Mavericks when you're sure the bad guys don't have much air defense. 3) I would use an air to ground version of an AIM-9 or AIM-120. Replace air-air seeker with either GPS, IIR, MMW radar, or some combination thereof. AIM-9 is a little light in the warhead department (10 lbs.) The AIM-120 has 40 lbs and adds a little kinetic energy as well. These give significant standoff range, fast response (none of the drop the weapon and then take a nap while the weapon flies out like JSOW) and the airframes are already integrated on every fighter aircraft.
