Subject: Is Viper Strike being used in Iraq?
reefdiver    4/4/2006 11:30:08 AM
The Viper Strike 50lb laser guided "glide" bomb was apparently deployed on a Hunter UAV in 2003. Aside from plans to put a bunch on AC-130, I've heard very little about these precision muntions. They would seem ideal for urban combat as they have greatly reduced collateral damage. Predators could carry at least double the # of VS as the hellfire. The AC-130 could carry dozens and drop them from a MANPADS safe altitude. Any signs that these are actually being used in Iraq or Afghanistan?

I know they used about a dozen in 2003 on the *hunter platform. They are taking their sweet time fielding them in large numbers! Or maybe they are using them with out telling us…
