Subject: Jaguar overwing pylon..
mantanfwi    10/11/2006 2:49:13 AM
I guess its abit old but does anyone really know HOW on earth does the AIM 9 or Magic gets launched from the Jaguar when they are loaded on the overwing pylon. I mean the whole launch sequence...is it just plain same as the normal AIM 9 launch from underwings or is there more to it? Thanks

Whilst no expert, I would assume the firing sequence is somewhat identical to that of launching in a conventional manner. The Winder doesn't drop when launched immediately like some other AAMs, so I wouldn't think safety or wing/stores separation parameters would be an issue.

That might be true dropbear, but consider the launch in a truning engagement...that can surely ruin the day for the launching a/c...fumes going into the engine post launch etc.  I know for a fact that the Adour 871 used by Jaguar have facility for fuel dipping sequence (reduces the ingestion of bad gases post AAM launch) but is there any articles or notes out there that can really explain this phenomenon in the air to air missile launch...Any Jaguar heads out there that launched AIM 9 or IR msl before from overwing pylons?  Thanks
