Subject: WW2 Brit warplane guns

During World War II, did the RAF equip any of its own major combat aircraft with .50-caliber machine guns? (I'm not including Lend-lease American built planes like Curtiss Kittyhawks or whatever.)

I don't think any Spitfires had 4 x .50's and 2 x 20mm's, they had either 8 x .303's, or 4 x .303's and 2 x 20mm's, or 2 x 50's and 2 x 20mm's, or finally 4 x 20mm's.

The Spitfire Mk 9 and some other marks had two Browning .50 in addition tow the pair of 20mm cannon. The 0.50 Browning was also found in the nose and tail turrets of the Lincoln bomber which replaced the Lancaster immediately post-war.
