Well, really, what the hell is there to respect about Afghan society? It only has a very spotty, extremely thin veneer of modernity and a vast amount of Medieval primitiveness.
This PC crap has gone beyond ridiculous! Wars are won or lost in the will. A certain amount of ruthlessness and commitment to do whatever's necessary is what won us WW2. By contrast, it's PC lack of ruthlessness and commitment today shows in our Af-stan effort.
For those uninterested in history, there's lots and lots of extremely graphic taken-by-field-troops photography from WW2 around and readily available on the Internet. The difference? We didn't have all the ridiculous PC hysteria then.

Stop What?

What must be stopped?
Afghans desecrating enemy casualties? Double Standards by American Media? Use of Cell Phone Cameras in a War Zone? Alleged US Troop Cultural Disrespect? Traumatic effects of war on those involved? All of the Above ??????

Why ? The taliban show how good they are everytime they get any kind of trophy and the media fall into line splashing it all around the world, a good taliban / dead american story can generate lots of money for someone like Reuters, ABC etc..
So why don't we use the media and splash stories about the reality,, lots of good dead taliban, after all it's the taliban that are fighting for the rights to send our children billions of dollars worth of heroin..
troops Iphone or TV cameras, I say wave them in front of the world at every opertunity and explain why they are dead.....

Its the media that has never been held to a higher standard that needs to be stopped. Generating higher sales and profits at the expense and abuse of the military doing their job, while using a double standard for the enemy is immoral and dibilitating for the troops and a lie to the public as to the realities of war.
Their is nothing more digusting than the editor of a US newspaper or news channel whipping their skippy over the latest digression of the US military brought to their attention. (perhaps they will win a Peabody/or Pulitzer award for it).
Its been that way ever since the Vietnam war.

Respect or no respect, one thing I know for sure. During wars in Balkans in 90's many people from all sides found themselves in front of court, international or domestic, accused of war crimes, only because they could not keep their mouth shut and, also, because of "trophy" pictures.
