Subject: Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers
TriggaFingaz    2/12/2006 7:46:46 AM
Which ones do you prefer: The Clone Troopers of the Galactic Republic (Star Wars Episode II & III) or the Imperial Stormtroopers of the classic Star Wars trilogy? For one, I like the episode III clones the best because of sheer variety- the commanders have names, while different units colour their armour to distinguish themselves! Also, they are clones of Boba Fett's father, Jango! While Stormtroopers are also cool, they are BLAND- all white, even in places where they would stand out like a tarantula on wedding cake... at least the clone troops who were serving with Yoda on Chewie's homeworld had camouflage!!! What are your views?

There should be no debate here. (regardless of how gut wrenching horrible episodes 1-3 were)

Clone Troopers - Conquered the Star Wars Galaxy

Stormtroopers - A Legion of the Emperors best troops were soundly defeated by furry midgets lacking even bronze age technology.

Despite the horror of Eps I-III, the clone troopers have to get the nod for actual competency as an army trained (quite literally) from "birth". By the time of Episode IV (approx 20 years after Episode III - based on Luke and Leia's apparent age) I guess the Stormtroopers had devolved into an underfunded, undertrained, pompous bunch of dillettantes who resembled their formidable forbears only in name and dress.

Funny how all that battle armor never seemed to work for them. Also, if Stormtroopers had HUD inside their helmet visors, why did the officers in Episode IV wear those orange CalTrans worker shoulder covers?

I sort of wrote them off as being copies of a copy of a copy... diminishing returns.  Or as Nan suggested, more flaws until you get TIMMY! the storm trooper that can't shoot straight and bumps his head on things when entering control rooms on the Death Star.

The armor, I think anything mass produced and "built by the lowest bidder" says it all.  The Imperial Navy gets a Death Star and the ground troops get their training and equipment budget cut.

Even though they are at war, I'm guessing the stormtroopers didn't actually get in a lot of fights. Most battles were probably resolved through fleet action and such, or by the Rebels running away at the first sign of an Imperial Navy presense. So the stormtroopers could probably get by on a combination of name recognition and a physically intimidating appearance when they had to go planetside to provide security or try to find some missing droids or such. Meanwhile they probably spent most of their time practicing drill and ceremonies and polishing their armor instead of engaging in realistic training.

I could never work out why they bothered with the armour.never even stopped a pistol shot.
and when they were fighting teddy ruxpin and friends crappy stone tipped arrows penetrated it.
utterly without merit.
we could do far better with our technology now.

Strange how, in Timothy Zahn's books (are these widely regarded as canon?) for Episodes VII-IX, the Stormtroopers are described as being the creme-de-la-creme of the Empire, even more highly regarded than Spec Ops guys of our own time - more like fighter pilots. TIE pilots of the Star Wars saga seem to be as expendable as WWI grunts. (I guess the Stormtrooper training and the type of ultra-loyal soldier it turned out) was considered more valuable than a trained pilot of a fighter spacecraft. (!?!)

Clone troopers are way better than stormtroopers first of all we can see their face clone troopers face. Second they have way better aim. Also phase 1 armor looks so much cooler than phase 2. Third clone troopers are actually breed for battle they take out tons of battle droids with hardly any losses. When stormtroopers battle rebel forces the kill ratio is like 8-1 rebels
