Smoke WP    You made an old Gunner cry.   5/2/2008 5:42:53 PM
Nice video Arty. What a change from my days on the guns.
I would give my right lung to be in the sandbox right now. My son will back there in March 09.
From what I hear, RCHA is very pleased with their new gun.

Hey Smoke,

I thought you would like that vid.  Your boys are doing an outstanding job over there. :)

The "big cleaning rod thing" is used to ram the projectile into the breach.  It is best to force the bullet in so the rotating band seals tight to the chamber.  Otherwise some of the propellant gas blows past  and you get a short round which gets the forward observers & others out there excited.   Some cannon use a hydralic rammer powered off the vehical engine.  These are nice to have, but increase cost per unit, expand maitinance cost and hours, and break at the worst moment.

On the older M114 & M198 the rammer staff was a lot shorter less than two meters.
