Subject: World War III could start the same way as World War I.
The Warrior    8/24/2005 2:11:38 PM
WWI started because of a complex web of alliances, could this be the way World War 3 starts? there is NATO, SEATO, EU, African Union, NAFTA, CAFTA, and a hell alot other alliances I haven't mentioned. Could this start a chain reaction as in WWI?

The alliances are there, but few are there as a tripwire, as some of the 1914 alliances were. In 1914, war between the major powers was inevitable due to the conflict of interest and the way war was viewed. After two industrial wars, it's unlikely that this keenness for conflict will be repeated.
