Subject: Eurovision Song Contest 2008 - Art imitates life?
Aussiegunneragain    5/26/2008 11:26:59 AM
Who saw this contest on Sunday night? Russia won on the votes of a whole bunch of Eastern European nations and former Russian republics. The British commentator Terry Wogan claimed that the the word had gone out that it was "Russia's turn" and the populations of Russia's neighbours obliged with a avalanche of votes, to avoid having their oil and gas turned off this winter. Do people reckon their is something in the notion that Russian intimidation even extends to rigging the outcome of a song context, or is Wogan just being a sourpuss?
