Subject: usn Loses sub

Saw on the news tonight the USN thought they lost a 688 class boat off florida. The boat didnt check in in time. the navy tried to find it. They couldnt find it. The boat checked in later to everyone's relief.

Problem is -  they had classified this as a highest level alert, and had alerted all of the families to prepare for  a "sub down" announcement. (Caught this on CBS News Radio news Roundup at 6PM). Then had to call them all back wheh it did make contact.

An interesting slant on this episode is that we could not find our own sub.
Says a lot for how good they are or how bad our ASW is.

Naaah. Someone didn't realize we turned the clocks ahead to DST a month earlier.
